July 22-29, 2006 – New York City
Ever wonder what it would be like to be a child in India without the chance to go to school? Or a Nigerian farmer during a drought? Want to hear the experts go head to head about the best ways to fight global poverty? How can you get your peers to care about the billion people living on a dollar a day?
Got your attention yet? Those are just a few of the parts of the NetAid Global Citizen Corps Summit. It'll be a week of hands-on learning activities, passionate debates, group projects. challenging discussions, exciting experts and field trips all over the city. You'll live, learn, plan and collaborate with peers from around the country.
Here are some of the things you and 50 other high school students will take part in:
- Learning activities on themes such as poverty, hunger, the global HIV/AIDS pandemic, access to education, global development, foreign assistance, human rights
- Action planning for your school and community
- Interactive workshop on collaborating with the media, including newspapers and T.V.
- Expert guest speakers from renowned organizations like the UN, Center for Global Development and the Council on Foreign Relations
- Video conferences with students in developing countries
- A visit to the United Nations and around the city of New York Evening reception with your peers and special guests
