“I really can't wait to go back home and start planning the projects I want to create.”
Mashal, GCC Leader, New York

Highlights:

  • Carol Welch, MDG Campaign

Welch coordinates efforts in the U.S. for the UN Millennium Campaign. She helped the students plan actions to raise awareness around the Millennium Development Goals and encourage the U.S. to take a more active role in fighting poverty.

  • Planning Action Campaigns

GCC Leaders worked with the NetAid staff to map out a year’s worth of poverty-fighting campaigns. From planned media outreach through radio and op-eds to organizing school assemblies, the leaders hope to reach tens of thousands of fellow students.

Learning Sessions:

GCC Leaders recreated members of their communities through games that taught them how to win over collaborators in their campaigns. They also created specific action plans for all four Global Action Days over the 2005-2006 year. NetAid staff trained students in writing grants, op-eds and letters to advance their actions.

Leaders Speak:

"I'm looking forward to being able to go home and teach other students what I learned here. It is so exciting to think that others will have the opportunity to learn what I did."
Lizzie, GCC Leader, Texas

"I'm here at the GCC Summit because young people are the key to getting Americans to care and take action in the fight against global poverty. Without their energy and engagement, members of Congress will never make fighting poverty a priority."
Carol Welch, Millennium Campaign

"When we go home, we have to remember to find one teacher at our school who is a supporter of our mission; that teacher can have a huge impact with administrators and help us reach our goals."
Heather, GCC Leader, California
