NetAid Celebrates 2004 Global Action Awards HonoreesOn the evening of 2 December 2004, NetAid joined with more than 250 friends to celebrate the achievements of four American young people who have taken extraordinary actions to fight global poverty. The 2004 Global Action Awards honorees are: - Clotilde Dedecker – age 17, Buffalo, NY
- Alex Hill – age 17, Grand Blanc, MI
- Chi Nguyen – age 16, San Ramon, CA
- Maura Welch – age 16, Syracuse, NY
Co-chaired by music producer Quincy Jones and Don Listwin, Founder of the Canary Fund, the event was held in New York City’s historic Gotham Hall, and included inspiring words from emcee Zain Verjee of CNN International and exciting melodies from musical guest Angélique Kidjo. Reverend Mpho Tutu, AIDS activist and daughter of Noble Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, presented the Awards to the four young people and Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, who was honored with the “Lifelong Global Action Award” for his humanitarian and peacekeeping work. The highpoint of the evening was the opportunity to hear the stories and words of the honorees. These are young people who have taken the lead in tackling issues like access to healthcare and education, and the plight of street children and child laborers in poor countries. Take a moment to meet them and learn about their outstanding work. |
